Community

The goal of SANSE is in long-term, gradual, and impactful change; therefore, our model is based on a stable, lasting relationship with the community.

Reciprocal Communication

We have been working with Ban Lien since our founding in 2016, and it is our plan to maintain this partnership while replicating its model to other regions in need. One of the most important aspects of a long-lasting relationship is reciprocal communication.

By listening to the community, we gain the most valuable perspective to help maximize our positive impact and point our focus to where it is needed.

Respecting Tradition

As a primarily ethnic Tay community, Ban Lien differs greatly from us. This makes it all the more important for us to view local problems from local perspectives and develop solutions that protect and promote their values. We developed close relationships with figures in the community so that they could consult us in every decision and ensure that our impact would be positive.

Beyond Education

Ban Lien still needs much support beyond its school grounds. Although our primary focus is on education, we also respond to many needs expressed by other members of the Ban Lien community. From small efforts, such as clothing drives and providing supplies for the medical clinic, to large projects, such as contributing funds to construct a roof for the nursery, we strive to build a holistic foundation for the community’s future with education as its spearhead.

Human Connection

We understand that for children to receive good education, they must be motivated to go to school. Our members are high school students, who are uniquely suited to bond with the children in Ban Lien. In every one of our trips to Ban Lien, we arrange fun activities to connect with the students so that we could affect their attitude towards education in a direct, positive manner—not as strangers, but as their friends.

Long-term Commitment

SANSE plans to become a permanent presence in Ban Lien for the foreseeable future; this will help us become a reliable partner for the community and affect real and permanent change. It also allows us to develop unique programs, such as the SANSE Scholarship for incoming high school students in Ban Lien or the partnership with the Ban Lien Organic Tea Cooperative to distribute the unique specialty tea produced by the local farmers.
